After France abolished the slave trade in the 19th century, they needed cheap labor for their plantations. They found indentured workers from southern India. Most of these people were Tamil speakers.
Even now, the East Indians in Guadeloupe often speak Tamil at home, though the usually speak French as a second language. They are mostly acculturated, living like the other peoples of Guadeloupe. Yet they also have Indian cultural associations.
The French influence in Guadeloupe leaves the people secular, but the East Asians do Hindu practices in the privacy of their own homes. A little over half are Christian in some form.
Like all other peoples of the world, the East Indians in Guadeloupe need to put Jesus first in their lives.
Pray for East Indian disciplers to make more disciples in Guadeloupe.
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them to the cross.
Scripture Prayers for the East Indian in Guadeloupe.
