Introduction / History
The Kalwar of India are also called Kalar, among other names. They brew and sell alcohol to others. They are Hindus by religion.

In Uttar Pradesh the Kalwar speak Hindi and read and write in Devanagari. They are not vegetarians. They believe in monogamy and adult marriages that are arranged by discussion. Divorce and marrying again is allowed. Sons inherit the property of their parents with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. Birth and death rituals are celebrated. They work in cultivation and other work.

In Bihar, the Kalwar speak Magahi and Hindi and read and write in Devanagari. They cannot marry others in the village who are not Kalwar. There are naming ceremonies for their children and the dead are cremated. They work in agriculture and industrial work. The younger ones are better educated than those who are older. They use local medicine and drink water from wells.

The Kalwar in West Bengal speak Bengali and Hindi and read and write in Bengali and Devanagari. They are not vegetarians but do not eat beef and pork. Wheat and rice are their favorite cereals. They have various jobs but most are in business. There is a local caste council among them. They have a good literacy level in general and they use family planning and modern medicine.

Prayer Points
* Pray that God will send the Kalwar messengers to bring them the good news.
* Pray that gospel materials are given to them bringing Salvation for them.
