Peoples Coding Change

Peoples Coding Change

In January 2010, Joshua Project changed its internal people coding from ROP to PeopleID. The following codes were changed:

  CODE NAME   SAMPLE VALUES
  Old New   Old New
Affinity Blocs: ROP1 PeopleID1   A014 23
People Clusters: ROP2 PeopleID2   C0058 154
People Groups: ROP3 PeopleID3   101776 11029

Both the code names and the code content were changed. This coding change should not impact usage of the Joshua Project website as it has been modified to accept both the old ROP and new PeopleID codes.

Reasons for the Coding Change

  • To allow Joshua Project to internally code people groups independently from the Harvest Information System Registry of Peoples (ROP).
  • To reduce confusion over both Joshua Project and the Harvest Information System using the same people coding name.
  • To better facilitate cross-referencing between Joshua Project and Harvest Information System peoples.
