Introduction / History
The Karua live in Bihar. They speak Hindi and read and write in Devanagari. They are not vegetarians and eat wheat and rice as their staple grains.

The Karua prefer marriages between cousins. Monogamy is the usual way. Divorce is allowed with approval. There are birth and marriage rituals among them. The dead are cremated. Hinduism is their religion.

The Karua work as scavengers, in industry, some have small businesses and some work for the government. The boys are educated. They use modern medicines and family planning. They do not own land.
