Introduction / History
They don't share the same language as neighboring groups, although many of them can use Makhuwa in the main villages for communication and trade. There are cultural similarities with some differences in rituals and family customs. There are only some differences in the way the local traditional leadership is organized. A "Regulo" is the traditional local leader.

Where are they located?
They live in the Angoche District and in the coastal area of the Angoche Island. There is also one community in the city of Nampula.

Their subsistence activities are agriculture, trading and fishing.

What are their beliefs?
The majority are Muslim and a minority are Christian. There is no syncretism between Islam and Christianity, although both of them are mixed with animistic beliefs.
