Tajik of Canada

Introduction / History
The first Tajiks moved to Canada in the 1970s. This was a small number of people. Others, from Afghanistan, began to go to Canada in the 1980s when the USSR invaded that country. There has been a steady stream of Afghan Tajiks entering Canada, but the numbers are not large. They usually move to Canada for safety from the violence in Afghanistan.

Where are they located?
The Afghan Tajiks gravitate to urban centers: Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, and Quebec City.

What are their lives like?
Many of the Afghan Tajiks in Canada are in the process of learning new job skills and either English or French.

What are their beliefs?
They had few if any opportunities to hear about Jesus in Afghanistan or Tajikistan, though they can hear of Him in Canada. Some are good Muslims while others have given up on Allah.

What are their needs?
The Afghan Tajiks need to learn new language and job skills that will enable them to be employable in Canada. People who love Jesus and have the right skills can help them.

Prayer Points
* Pray for the Lord to raise up believers in Canada who will whatever time is needed with the Afghan Tajiks and teach them marketable skills.
* Pray for believers to show Afghan Tajiks the way to follow Jesus.
* Pray for a strong disciple-making movement among Tajiks to begin in Canada.
