Aruva of India

Introduction / History
The Aruva live in Orissa. They speak, read and write in Oriya. Hinduism is their religion. They are not vegetarians.

The Aruva like cross cousin marriages. They have sub groups and are endogamous, meaning they prefer to marry within their own group. There are birth and marriage rituals. The divorced and bereaved can marry again. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son getting the most and becoming in charge of the home.

The Aruva work mostly in agriculture while some are laborers due to being landless. Some of them are office workers too.
