Bhottada of India

Introduction / History
The Bhottada are a Scheduled Caste of India. Bhottada comes from the word Bhu and has to do with land.

The Bhottada live in Orissa and speak Basturia and Oriya and read and write in Oriya. They are not vegetarians and they eat rice and ragi as cereals. There are many clans of them. They prefer cross-cousin marriages.

Agriculture is the main source of income for the Bhottada. They are Hindus, yet observe traditional beliefs as well. They have festivals. Family planning is used by them. They get their drinking water from wells.

The Bhottada have traditional community councils who judge in disagreements. They have a low literacy level and so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the leaders of the community councils will come to Jesus Christ and lead others of the Bhottada to Him.
* Pray that gospel recordings will bring them to salvation.
