In Bihar they are endogamous and speak in Magadhi. They are small traders and have shops. They have a State Association for the whole state.

In Rajasthan, the Bhatiara do their traditional work of inn keeping and sell food to Muslims. Many work as laborers. They have a caste council that judges in disputes among them.
