Dharhi (Muslim traditions) of India

Introduction / History
The Dharhi are Muslims who live in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. They are singers by tradition. Because of their singing they have a noticeable identity among Muslims in that state.

Many of the Dharhi live in the Lucknow and Hardoi Districts. They speak the Awadhi dialect of Hindi. They marry their cousins and are endogamous, preferring to marry within their group. Lineage marriages are favored by them.

Though the Dharhi are singers, most of them are now laborers. They live in villages that have many castes and are Sunni Muslims. They have caste councils that look after them and deal with matters.

Prayer Points
* Pray that reading about Jesus Christ in the Koran will lead to them wanting to know more, read the Bible, and give their lives to Him.
* Pray that God will give the Dharhi dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
* Pray that the leaders of the caste councils will come to Jesus Christ and lead others of the Dharhi to Him too.
