Ghosi (Hindu traditions) of India

Introduction / History
The Ghosi of India live in Madhya Pradesh and were originally from Gujarat. The name Ghosi comes from the word meaning grass. They speak Hindi and read and write in Devanagari. They are vegetarians who eat wheat as a cereal.

Upon the death of the father, property goes to the sons except that women can have the ornaments. They work mainly in agriculture.

The Ghosi are endogamous, meaning they prefer marriage within their group. Divorce and marrying again are allowed. They have birth and marriage rituals and the dead are usually cremated. They have a council to settle disputes called the Jati Biradari Sabha. Hinduism is their religion. They use modern medical facilities.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and lead others of the Ghosi to Him.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
