The Halba live in Maharashtra and in other Indian states like Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. They are a Scheduled Tribe. Hal means 'plough'. Cultivation and other agricultural work are their main occupations.

The Halba have good relations with others. The language they speak is a mixture of languages like Marathi and Oriya.

With Halba marriages, a woman cannot divorce her husband. Widowers can only marry widows. Marriages with cousins are well liked.
