Kachari (Hindu traditions) of India

Introduction / History
The Thengal are a small group of the Kachari. They live in Assam and speak, read and write in Assamese. They are not vegetarians and eat rice.

The Thengal allow the bereaved and divorced to marry again. There are marriage rituals. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, the sons inherit the property.

The Thengal work in agriculture. The women are good at weaving. Their religion is a mixture of local religion and Hinduism. Bihu is their main festival and then they mix with neighbours too. They have a council to look after them.

Prayer Points
* Pray that council leaders come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that Indian Christians will lead them to Jesus Christ too.
