Kalota of India

Introduction / History
The Kalota used to be warriors. They live in Madhya Pradesh. Hinduism is their religion.

The Kalota speak Gujarati and Hindi and read and write in Devanagari. They are vegetarians who eat wheat and sometimes rice.

The Kalota do not have cross cousin marriages and are endogamous. They have adult marriages with rituals. Divorce and marrying again are allowed. They have birth rituals and the dead are cremated. On the death of the father, the widow gets some of the property. They have selected elders who settle disagreements for them.

The Kalota work mostly in agriculture. They believe in education and use family planning.
