Kachari Sonwal of India

Introduction / History
The Kachari live in North Assam in India. They speak a Tibeto Burman language as well as Hindi. They are Hindus by religion but some have animist beliefs.

The main work of the Kachari is agriculture. The Kachari of the lowlands live among the Assamese and the Bengalis.

There is also the Dimasa Kachari who live in the mountains. They cultivate maize and other crops. They believe that the soul is reborn after death. On the death of the father there is paternal property where men inherit estates and money and cattle for example and also maternal property where women inherit such things as jewelry and clothes. There is also common property like household items shared by sons and daughters. The village leader has judicial and executive powers.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the village leaders will come to Jesus Christ and lead others of the Dimasi to Him.
* Pray that God will give the Kachari dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
