Tiwa of India

Introduction / History
The Lalung of Assam in India are Hindus but some have converted to Christianity. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as a primary cereal. They are monogamous and have cross-cousin marriages. There is a bride price and the dead are cremated. They work in cultivation and are good at carpentry. Family planning is used by them.

In Meghalaya the Lalung like to be called Tiwa which means people who were lifted from below. They live in the hills. Lalung is spoken by them and they read and write in Roman. A traditional council looks after them. They use modern and traditional medicines. They have road connections which should be a help to getting the gospel message to them.

Regarding the name Lalung, lang means water and lung means to sink in it.

Prayer Points
* Pray that Lalung Christians will lead others of them to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that the traditional council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and that they in turn will lead others of the Lalung to Him too.
