Introduction / History
There is almost no public information available about this people group, and we know nothing about their historical background.
Where are they located?
Most Mahara people live in India's states of Odisha or the various northeastern states, though a smaller number live in Bangladesh.
What are their lives like?
There is almost no information about the lifestyle of this people group. All we know is that they are less than one percent Christian according to census data.
What are their beliefs?
The Mahara people are almost entirely Hindu. Hindus don't have a set of doctrinal beliefs in the same way that Christians, Jews or Muslims do. They worship whatever spirit being they believe will provide for their needs.
What are their needs?
Like other peoples of the world, the Maharas need the opportunity to put their faith in the Risen Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can provide them with the blessings of hope and joy and spiritual guidance.
* Pray for gospel workers to catch a vision for reaching the Mahara people for Jesus and that in God's sovereign timing the hearts of the Mahara people would be open and ready to follow Him.
* Pray for Jesus movements to bless extended families so the gospel will spread rapidly among this people group.
* Pray for the spiritual lives of the Mahara people to become fruitful as they follow Christ.
* Pray for the lives and culture of the Mahara people to evidence the rule and reign of the Kingdom of God as they open to the gospel, and for the beauty of Jesus to be seen in them.
