Markande of India

Introduction / History
The Markande are Hindus by religion and live in Bihar. They are also called by the name of Muni. They speak Angika and Hindi too and read and write in Devanagari. Wheat and rice are eaten by them as cereals. They are not vegetarians and eat meat, fish and eggs.

Child marriages are among the Markande. The bereaved and divorced can marry again with approval. There are birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated or buried. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home.

The Markande are not landowners and work as agricultural or general laborers. They have a caste council and elders to look after them. They are not well educated so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too. Modern medicines and family planning are used by them.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the council leaders and elders come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that gospel recordings will lead them to salvation.
