Pundari of India

Introduction / History
The Pod of West Bengal are a scheduled caste. They speak Bengali. They are not vegetarians and eat rice. Hinduism is their religion.

The Pod work in agriculture. Their education level is not too high, so the gospel will need to be given in oral form. They use both traditional and modern medicines and family welfare schemes.

The Pod of Orissa speak, read and write in Bengali and Oriya. They work in cultivation and fishing. Women weave mats. They are endogamous (preferring to marry within the community) and monogamous. Marriage can be by discussion or mutual consent. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. Disagreements are settled by a council. They have migrated from a Bangladesh region.

Prayer Points
