Introduction / History
The Chamar can be looked down on by higher Indian Castes as they do leather work. The Chamar in the Punjab in India are not a Scheduled Caste.

In Malwa in the Punjab, most of the Chamar are Sikhs. They are leather tanners, weavers and work in agriculture. Punjabi and Hindustani is spoken by them. They read and write in Devanagari.

The Chamar in the Punjab are not vegetarians. They eat wheat and rice as cereals. They are exogamous. A dowry is used for marriage. They can divorce if they want to.
