Thandan (Hindu traditions) of India

Introduction / History
The Thandan are an ethnic group who are living in South India. They are coconut and Palmyra tree climbers from Kerala and the Kerala authorities class them as a scheduled caste.

Most of the Thandan were tenants in past times and used to be laborers to the landed gentry. They do not own land. Climbing trees to get coconuts is their traditional work. Some of the women work as laborers in agriculture.

Many of the Thandan live in the Travancore region. They are Hindus who sing praises to Lord Ayyappa of Sabarimala. They do folk dancing too.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the day will come when the Thandan praise Jesus Christ.
* Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
* Pray that gospel materials will help lead them to Jesus Christ.
