Vetan (Hindu traditions) of India

Introduction / History
The Vetam live in Tamil Nadu. Vetan means hunter as that is what they were but not many of them hunt now. They speak, read and write in Tamil. They are not vegetarians. Hinduism is their religion.

The Vetan have cousin marriages and they are mostly monogamous. Divorce is allowed and the bereaved can marry again. On the death of the father, the sons inherit the property. On death, the oldest one is cremated while the others in the family are buried.

The Vetan do fortune telling and work in agriculture. They have a community council to look after them. They believe in education and use modern medicine and family planning.
