Sakiriabar of Brazil |
Introduction / History The Sakiriabar are a tribe in Brazil who live in the Rio Guapore and Mequens regions. They are also called Sakurabiat which means groups of monkey's nails. They speak Sakirabia and some of them speak Portuguese.
The Portuguese discovered the Sakiriabar in the seventeenth century. They contracted diseases when rubber searchers came last century.
The Sakiriabar have homes for large families with two rooms and their own gardens. They eat corn, cassava and peanuts. Men work in the gardens. Women and children collect fruits. The Sakiriabar make necklaces and bracelets.
The Sakriabar marry those who are not Indians because of their small numbers. Their ethnic religions are no longer performed. Maybe there is a religious void now and an opportunity for the gospel to be given. Prayer Points * Pray that Brazilian Christians will give the Sakriabar the gospel message leading them to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that their social and economic needs will be met. Text source: Anonymous |
