Rajput Garhwali of India

Introduction / History
The Garhwali Jimdar Rajput of India became Rajputs. They got mixed with Rajputs who migrated to the part of the Himalayas where they live. They live in Uttar Pradesh and speak Garhwali and Hindi and read and write Devanagari. They are not vegetarians and they eat wheat and rice as cereals.

Marriage among the Garhwali is by discussion and by exchange. They can divorce and marry again. Sons inherit the property when the father has died and the oldest son gets more and becomes in charge of the home. There are birth, marriage and death rituals among them.

The Garhwali work in agriculture and as laborers with some being teachers. They have traditional councils who look after them and settle disputes. They are Hindus who worship several deities and have festivals. Government programs such as education and health are used by them.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and lead others among them to Him.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
