Somali Bantu of Somalia

Introduction / History
The Somali Bantu live in the southeast of Somalia near the Juba and Shabelle Rivers. They were originally from Nigeria and Cameroon and migrated to south east Africa. They were captured from south east Africa and sold as slaves, some to Somalia.

The Somali Bantu refer to themselves as Bantu and have not been looked upon too well in Somalia. Most of them speak Af-Maay. They are mostly farmers who eat of their own produce. Most of them are Muslims but some became Catholics and some are animists. They marry among themselves mostly and there are few marriages between them and the Somalis.

Many of them were forced from their lands during the Somali civil war, some of them to Kenya. This century some of the Somali Bantu have gone to the United States and some have become citizens of Tanzania.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the troubles the Somali Bantu have had will lead them to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to salvation too.
