Jogi Kanphata (Hindu traditions) of India

Introduction / History
The Kanphatia are Hindus. They get their name from Kan meaning ear and phatia meaning slit. They have their ears slit in a religious ritual.

The Kanphatia in Gujarat are vegetarians who eat wheat. They speak Kachchi and read and write in Gujarati. Marriage is by discussion. The bereaved and divorced can marry again. The dead are buried. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. They work looking for alms while some work in cultivation and others in small businesses. The elders look after social activities. They have a low level of education so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too.

The Kanphatia in Maharashtra are vegetarians. They speak Marathi and read and write in Devanagari. They work mostly in agriculture.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the elders come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that gospel recordings will lead them to salvation.
