Yadav Gualbans (Hindu traditions) of India

Introduction / History
The Ahir herd and breed cattle and sell milk products. Many live in Bihar, Bengal and east Madhya Pradesh. The name Ahir is related to cow herding. They came from Central Asia. Many of them have become cultivators.

The Ahir do not marry their first cousins. A man can marry the younger sister of his wife while his wife is living. Girls can be exchanged between families. They are Hindus and their main festival is Diwali.

As cattle need forests in hot weather they live near forests and have become friendly with forest tribes.

Many of the Ahir are vegetarians and eat wheat as a cereal. They speak Hindi and other languages. Some of them live in Gujarat and Rajasthan. They connect themselves to the Yadav community.

Prayer Points
* Pray that Indian Christians will lead the Ahir to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
