Kunbi Dhaneja of India

Introduction / History
The Kunbi Dhonoje are a large people group in Maharashtra. They speak Marathi and read and write in Devanagari. Many of them are vegetarians.

Marriage with the daughter of the uncle is preferred. They are endogamous. This means they prefer to marry within their community. A dowry is paid in the marriage arrangement. Marrying again for the divorced and bereaved is allowed. There are birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated, though deceased children under ten years are buried. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property.

The Kunbi Dhonoje work in agriculture mainly. Some do other work. There are teachers and business people among them. Hinduism is their religion. They are landowners.

Prayer Points
