Kunbi Ghatole of India

Introduction / History
The Kunbi Ghatole are one of the larger peoples in Maharashtra. They speak Marathi and read and write in Devanagari. Rice, wheat and jowar are eaten by them as cereals. The men are not vegetarians but the women are.

The Kunbi Ghatole are endogamous. This means they prefer to marry within their community. Cross-cousin marriages take place. Divorce and marrying again are allowed. There practice birth and marriage rituals. Adults are cremated, children are buried. Sons inherit the property.

They work in agriculture while some are laborers. Hinduism is their religion. Modern medicines and family planning are used by them.
