Introduction / History Austria and Bavaria used to be the same country many years ago and Austrian Bavarians are the largest people group in Austria.
Austrians speak German with a different dialect. The main religion is Catholic. As in other European countries secularism is large. Austrians spend more on leisure than on housing. Married couples often live near the family of the wife and there are many nuclear families.
The Austrians like veal and pork, breaded and fried. Soups and stews with dumplings are also enjoyed by them. Skiing and football are favorite sports. They are generally a happy people.
In Austria there is a low level of violent crime. Burglaries and business fraud can be common. There are a number of Austrians who are alcoholics and who have committed suicide. Austrians have free medical treatment.
