Introduction / History
The Bahai religion traces back to 1844 where it was founded in Persia as the Babi religion. Shaykh Sa’id Hindi was the founder. It was originally intended to be a reform movement within Islam. Bahaism found a home in what was then colonial India.

What are their lives like?
They are usually a wealthy people group who often run their own businesses. Because of their unorthodox beliefs, the Bahais are not welcome in Muslim Pakistan, a nation that is noted for persecuting religious minorities. By spreading their doctrine many fatwas have been issued for those converting from Islam to Bahaism. Fatwas are a pronouncement calling for their death. Ironically, many from the heretical Ahmadi Islamic movement have turned to Bahaism. Muslims especially object to the Bahais going to Jerusalem as a pilgrimage.

What are their beliefs?
The Bahai religion was born from the belief of a man who saw himself to be the Muslim messiah in the early 1800s. Bahais believe that when there is a crisis, God appears in the form of a prophet or ascended master. They believe that Buddha, Moses, Mohammed, and Jesus are all such manifestations. It is universalistic; Bahais believe in a common foundation for all religions. They believe that men and women are equal, and they oppose all forms of ethnic prejudice. There is essential harmony between science and religion. Perhaps for this reason, Bahais are known for their efforts to make educational opportunities available to all, even the very poor. Their founder likened death to the process of birth. He taught that the world beyond is as different from this world as this world is different from that of the child while still in the womb. The analogy to the womb in many ways summarizes the Bahai view of earthly existence. Just as the womb constitutes an important place for a person’s initial physical development, the physical world provides the matrix for the development of the individual soul. The progressing soul grows closer to God, while the soul that refuses to progress remains distant from God.

What are their needs?
Bahais need to find safety and acceptance. They also need to learn that Jesus Christ is who He said He is; there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.

Prayer Points
Pray for the Bahai to understand that Jesus is far above all others, and He can never be put on the same level as those whom they regard as "ascended masters." Pray for a Disciple Making Movement among the Bahais in Pakistan. Pray for Christ followers to go to the Bahais in Pakistan.
