Introduction / History A small number of Iraqis live in New Zealand. Some came from Iraq to live and some were born in New Zealand. Some are Christians though most are followers of Islam. The Arab Iraqis are the most numerous Arab Middle East migrants in New Zealand.
Most Iraqis living in New Zealand arrived after the Gulf War in the early 1990s. Most Iraqis live in Auckland and Wellington. Many of them are well educated. The Iraqis in North Shore, Auckland are growing in numbers.
When the Iraqis first came to New Zealand it was difficult to get employment. This century many of them have become self-employed. The Iraqis in New Zealand like to keep their culture. They speak Arabic, English and some of them speak other languages too here.
There are Iraqi clinics and Iraqi industrial businesses in New Zealand.
