The government of Paraguay did not allow the Japanese to live in their country until the last century. As in many countries the Japanese were not looked on favorably in World War Two in Paraguay. The Japanese were allowed to live in Paraguay in the late 1950s.
Many of the Japanese have gone to live in the capital Asuncion and some in other cities and the rural regions. Many Japanese came from Bolivia. A lot are of Spanish and German descent, originally having been descended from Japan.
Many of the Japanese in Paraguay work in agriculture and live in rural regions. The Japanese Paraguayans speak Japanese and Spanish.
The older Japanese are Buddhists and others in the Shinto religion. Japanese festivals to do with their religion have been celebrated. Later on, some of the Japanese Paraguayans became Roman Catholics which is the main religion in Paraguay.
There are plenty of opportunities to become one of Christ’s disciples in Paraguay. The Japanese lack the spiritual hunger to do so.
