Introduction / History
South Asian migration to Kenya began with the construction of the Uganda railway between 1896 and 1901 when some 32,000 laborers were recruited from British India, which included what is now Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Once the railway was completed, many of these laborers voluntarily settled in what is now Kenya. These early settlers were predominately from the Indian provinces of Gujarat and the Punjab, but a few were probably from what is now Pakistan's Sindh Province. Most settled in the new town of Nairobi, which was the capital of the British protectorate. Unlike black Africans, South Asians were permitted to reside legally in Nairobi in what was then a burgeoning white settler town.

Sindhis are a South Asian ethnic group that is noted all over the world for their prosperity. During the Partition of India in 1947, Hindus who lived in what is now Pakistan's Sindh Province fled either to India or elsewhere in the world. They left to save their lives from Pakistan Muslim militants with little more than what they could carry or wear. Within a couple of short decades these capable people managed to build economic empires in India and beyond.

Where are they located?
Though many are now in India, there are pockets of Sindhis in the UK, the US, and anywhere the British Empire once reigned, including Kenya.

What are their lives like?
In most parts of the world including Kenya, Sindhis are businessmen who earn a good living. Their standard of living is higher than most people in Kenya.

What are their beliefs?
Though there are many Sindhi Muslims in Pakistan, those who venture around the world are usually the Hindu Sindhis. They are pragmatic in their approach to the supernatural. They hope the gods or supernatural powers will grant them wealth and favor.

What are their needs?
The Sindhis lack spiritual hunger. They need to want the abundant life that only Jesus can offer.

Prayer Points
* Pray that Sindhis would discover that following Christ is more satisfying than storing up riches on earth.
* Pray that Hindu-background believers would go to the Sindhi people and live godly lives among them.
* Pray for a Disciple-Making movement among Sindhis to begin in Kenya.
