Text source: Joshua Project Summary The Bhurtia derive their community name from the term bhul because they believe that they were ordained by God to pursue the occupation of buffalo-grazing. They often use Singh as their surname. Child marriage and bride-price are prevalent practices. Their family deities are Dulhadeo, Sitala Devi, Thakur Baba and Panch Piria; village deities are DSh and Garbara Devi, and their regional deity is Bindyabasim Devi. Their sacred specialists are a priest and a sorcerer. Ministry Obstacles Madhya Pradesh (the primary home of this people group) has stern laws limiting conversions to Christianity. Outreach Ideas Pray that Christian workers who are going house to house throughout India will not overlook the smallish Bhurtia community. Pray for the followers of Christ Even though there may be no followers of Christ among the Bhurtia people at this time we can begin to pray for those who will soon come to Christ. Pray their hearts will be prepared as the Gospel comes to them. Pray for the entire people group Please pray that Hindu efforts to "re-convert" Christians that were formerly Hindus will not be successful in Madhya Pradesh. Pray the Bhurtia people will have many opportunities to hear the good news of Christ in ways they understand and will accept. Scripture Focus My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the LORD. View Bhurtia in all countries.
