Introduction / History
Biswas means “faith” or “faithful” or “trust.” It is a common family name for Hindus in the Bengali speaking parts of South Asia. Most live in Barisal, Jessore, and Khulna, three districts in Bangladesh.
What are their lives like?
Though they were always farmers, the Biswas people are moving to urban centers in hopes of getting higher paying jobs. Now many of them are artists, businessmen and government employees.
What are their beliefs?
Though they are entirely Hindu, the Biswas community sometimes joins the Muslims in their celebrations. They also have their own unique festivals and spiritual practices.
What are their needs?
The Biswas people need a John 10:10 blessing: The abundant life Jesus offers those who are willing to submit to his lordship.
