Introduction / History
The Chayakkaran live in Tamil Nadu. They speak, read and write in Tamil. They are not vegetarians.

The Chayakkaran practice cousin marriages. There are birth and marriage rituals. Widowers can marry again. As well as the sons, daughters get a share of the property when the father dies. The dead are cremated.

The Chayakkaran work in dyeing and weaving. The women help. Many now work in cultivation and in business and trading. They use traditional and modern medicines. Family planning is used by some of them. Hinduism is their religion and there is ancestor worship among them too.
