Introduction / History
The Kallar of India, mainly in Tamil Nadu, have several divisions that are similar. One of them is called the Esanattu. They speak, read and write in Tamil. They are not vegetarians but do not eat pork and beef. Rice is a main cereal.

Marriage is practiced only within their own community with cross-cousin marriages the preferred way. Polygamy is allowed if the woman cannot have children. Bride price and dowries are given. Marriage is at the home of the bride. Divorce and remarrying are allowed. There is a birth pollution period. They bury the dead and there is a death pollution period too. Inheritance is passed to the sons.

Hinduism is the main religion with many being of the Shaivite sect. They are mainly landowners. Farming and animal production is their main work. Those who own no land tend to work as laborers. They have traditional councils that settle disagreements. Family planning and modern medicines are used.

Among the Kallar Pramalai, though mostly Hindus, there are some who are Christians also.

Pray that the leaders of the councils among the Kallar will come to Jesus Christ and lead the others among them to salvation too.
Pray that the Kallar Christians will help bring many to Jesus Christ.
