Introduction / History
Nai means a barber. The traditional occupation of this caste was hair cutting. Nai Sikh is a well-respected caste in Punjab and they are called Raja (king) Sikhs there. They appear in the Backward Category (BC) in the Indian caste system. Today most of the people of this caste are not barbers. They are doctors, engineers, farmers, teachers, drivers and government workers. They are very hard-working people.

Where are they located?
Most of the Nai ( Raja ) Sikhs live in Punjab. They also live and work in abroad in countries like USA, England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

What are their lives like?
They Live in villages as well as in urban areas. They are friendly with the Jat, Tarkhan, Jheer and Kumhar communities. All of these participate in each other's important celebrations like marriages and birthdays. Some surnames belonging to the Nai Sikh caste are Bhanghu, Jassi, Jassy, Katri, Manju, Kalsi, Dhami, Salopal, Rajnwal and Mann.

What are their beliefs?
They believe in the Sikh religion and they always look to and remember Waheguru, the supreme being in their belief system.
