The Budong-Budong are one of Indonesia’s smallest ethnic groups. They live mainly in the Budong-Budong district of West Sulawesi. They speak Budong-Budong, a language unrelated to any others nearby and not spoken by any other group.
The Budong-Budong make their living by hunting, fishing and farming.
Officially, the Budong-Budong follow Islam; however, like many other people groups in Indonesia, they have retained animistic practices that they followed before Islam.
The Budong-Budong face threats from loggers, miners and others who wish to exploit the their homeland. As a very small people group, they may struggle to protect their livelihood.
No Christian resources are known to be available in Budong-Budong, although a Bible translation has begun. The language may not be written.
Pray for completion of the New Testament in Budong-Budong (whether oral or written, as needed). Ask God to create a hunger for his word.
Ask God to send workers to the Budong-Budong and to direct them to people who are seeking the truth.
Ask Jesus to appear to family and community leaders in dreams and visions and to draw them to the Father.
Pray for a Disciple Making Movement to emerge among the Budong-Budong that will transform their culture and lead to multiplying churches.
