Introduction / History
The Mahuri of India live in Bihar and Orissa and read and write in Devanagari. In Bihar they speak Magahi and Hindi. They are vegetarians and eat wheat and rice for cereals.

The Mahuri in Bihar are exogamous, which means they will marry with people outside of their group. Divorce and widow remarrying is not allowed but widowers can marry again. Upon the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. There are marriage and death rituals. The dead are cremated. Many are self-employed and some work in government service. They are mostly landowners. Hinduism is their religion. Traditional councils settle social disputes. They believe in education, modern medicines and family planning.

The Mahuri in Orissa speak Maithili, Oriya and Hindi and are vegetarians too. They believe in adult marriages and dowries are given. They work in agriculture and in wholesale and retail work.

Prayer Points
Pray that the leaders of the Mahuri councils will come to Jesus Christ and lead others of the Mahuri to salvation.
Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
