Introduction / History
The Kinuku are a small group of indigenous, agricultural people who live in central Nigeria. The closeness of the Kinuku people to the Hausa-Fulani peoples puts the Kinuku language in danger of extinction. Young people prefer to speak the Hausa and English languages they use in school. Only gospel recordings are available in the Kinuku language. Many resources are available in Hausa including a complete Bible and the JESUS Film.

Where are they located?
They are a small people group in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, north central Nigeria.

What are their lives like?
Smaller Nigerian people groups like the Kinuku are merging with the dominant Hausa-Fulani culture. As that process continues, the Kinuku people will probably eventually lose their own language and culture and adopt folk Islam of the Hausa-Fulani.

The primary occupation of the Kinuku is farming. They live in rural villages surrounded by the land they farm. The Kinuku grow rice, yams, beans, millet, maize, melons, and vegetables. Peanuts, kola nuts, and palm oil are cash crops that can help the Kinuku buy things they cannot make for themselves like cell phones and appliances. Villagers also raise goats and cattle for their meat, milk and hides.

Most people groups in rural Nigeria like the Kinuku enjoy music, story telling and dance as a form of entertainment and communication. These art forms are very meaningful in rural Nigeria. Those who want to take the gospel to the Kinuku people would do well to use these art forms when presenting the gospel. Unfortunately, many Kinuku are illiterate. The gospel will need to be shared with them in oral and visual forms.

What are their beliefs?
Most Kinuku practice animism or folk religion. The Kinuku people depend on the spirit world for their daily needs. Village shamans provide the Kinuku with charms and amulets to help them deal with evil spiritual forces.

The Kinuku believe that spirits inhabit the objects of nature such as rivers, trees, rocks, animals and the sky. The people live in fear of these evil spirits. If the spirits are not appeased, they can bring disaster upon the people. A small fraction of Kinuku claim to be Muslims. Their Islam is highly influenced by ethnic religions.

What are their needs?
The Kinuku people need adequate rain for their crops and their livestock so they can live lives free of want and poverty. They need modern medical care and good schools that will help the next generation to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Solar panels can bring electricity to charge cell phones. Most of all, the Kinuku need to hear and understand the message of Jesus Christ. He alone can forgive their sins and grant them eternal life.

Prayer Points
* Pray for a chain reaction of Kinuku families reaching families that results in many new believers who share their faith with others.
* Pray for grace and truth expanding into the entire Kinuku society as all believers learn to love others.
* Pray that churches and believers will bless their entire people group in such a way that God’s love will change the Kinuku people like yeast changes dough.
* Pray the Lord sends Nigerian believers to befriend and engage the Kinuku with the love of Christ.
* Pray for translation of the Bible to begin in this people group's primary language.
* Pray for the availability of the Jesus Film in the primary language of this people.
