Introduction / History South Asians in Poland consist mainly of Indians. There are some Pakistanis living in Poland also. The Pakistanis speak Urdu mainly and follow Islam. There are Pakistani restaurants in Poland.
Indians began coming to Poland just before the 1990s when Poland became a non-communist country and there were better chances of employment. Many Indians are business people who came after Poland became a member of the European Union early this century. Many Poles left Poland to go to wealthier European countries and Poland agreed to have more Indians coming to live and work here.
The Indians have integrated well in Poland. They have a large number of people in the capital Warsaw. Some of them live in Lodz. There are several Indian restaurants in Poland, mainly in Warsaw.
Most Indians in Poland are Hindus and Sikhs. There are Hindu temples here. The Sikh Gurdwara in Poland is the only Sikh shrine in the east of Europe.
The Indian Association of Poland helps to bring Indians and Poles together. The Indians of Poland speak Hindi, Polish and English.
