Summary The Enets consider themselves to be the indigenous inhabitants of the Taimyr Peninsula. The main activities have always been hunting and fishing. They have also been nomadic people, dependent on the rhythms of their environment. Although Christianization occurred in the 18th century, it was very superficial, and shamanism and animism have survived until the present day. Under Soviet rule the life of the Enets changed considerably, turning them into a settled people, and that turned their whole life upside down.
Ministry Obstacles The Enets people live in the far north of Russia where winters can be brutal. No Christian resources are reported as available in the Enets' language.
Outreach Ideas Younger people in the tribe may speak Russian, and many good resources are available in the Russian language. Perhaps Russian speaking believers from other tribes will carry the Gospel message to the Enets people. Pray to this end.
Pray for the followers of Christ A handful of Russian Orthodox is reported to be among this tribe. Pray these will develop a close and personal relationship with Christ, and will influence the entire tribe for him.
Pray for the entire people group Pray these people who live close to nature will be able to find sufficient food, and will have adequate medical care.
