Introduction / History
The Hatkar of Andhra Pradesh in India speak Kannada and read and write in Telugu. They prefer cross-cousin marriages. The oldest son takes charge of the home when the father dies. Most are weavers and the women help. They make saris and shirts in addition to other work.
They are Hindus by religion. Many of them have a good education. They use family planning and modern medicines.
The Hatkar of Maharashtra speak Marathi and read and write in Devanagari. The women are vegetarians but the men are not. They have birth, marriage and death rituals. Most of them work in agriculture while some of them do government work or other jobs.
* Pray that gospel materials will bring the Hatkar to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
