Introduction / History
Traditionally the Jhinwar peoples have been associated with boating, fishing and carrying water. Others milled grain for a living.

Where are they located?
The Hindu Jhinwar people live in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, two states in northern India.

What are their lives like?
The Jhinwar people are considered to be either Other Backward Castes (OBGs) or a Scheduled caste. These are both low status groups.

Recently, they have entered stone-cutting, agriculture, and the road-building professions. Education is not a priority for this people group, although the younger generations are being exposed to new ways that will require more education. Changes for this people group are on the horizon.

What are their beliefs?
The Jhinwar people can be Muslim, Sikh or Hindu. Low status Hindus are usually pragmatic about their beliefs, performing rituals and doing the deeds that they believe will give them favor and protect them from punishment by the gods.

What are their needs?
No matter what religious affiliation they have, Jhinwar people need to make Christ central to their identity. He needs to be the one they trust.

Prayer Points
* Pray that God's Holy Spirit will open new doors in hearts to positive change among the Jhinwar people.
* Pray for the Jhinwar people to have a Holy Spirit driven hunger for spiritual truth that will drive them to the Lord.
* Pray for the Lord to thrust out new workers who will lovingly stick with these people until they have a church planting movement.
* Pray for a disciple-making movement to sweep through Jhinwar communities.
