Introduction / History
The Sali of India (also called Saliar and Saliya) live in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. They speak, read and write in Tamil and Malayalam. Some speak in Kannada and Telugu. Their name means weaver. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as their main cereal.

The Sali marry their cousins and have adult marriages through arrangement. Men can remarry. On the death of the father, property goes to all the children and all receive the same amount. The oldest son becomes in charge of the home. There are birth and marriage rituals and the dead are cremated.

The Sali work as weavers. Some of them work in cultivation and get money from the land while some are self-employed and others of them are laborers. They are Hindus by religion and worship village gods. They have Caste Associations that look after their welfare.

The Sali believe in education, modern medicine and family planning as well as other benefits available to them.

Prayer Points
* Pray that the leaders of the Caste Associations will come to Jesus Christ and lead others of the the Sali to salvation too.
* Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to Jesus Christ.
