Introduction / History
The Saora of India are a Scheduled Tribe. They speak Saora and are mostly Hindus. They are mainly less than medium in height. Their literacy level tends to be low so the gospel message will need to be given in oral form and not just in written form.
The Saora are not vegetarians. Their food comes from rice, millet and ragi (a cereal grass). They are cultivators. Traditional village councils judge in matters such as financial and social ones. Herbal and modern medicines are used by them.
In Andhra Pradesh the Saora trace their lineage through males. In Madhya Pradesh they are wood cutters and laborers.
In West Bengal, some Saora are Muslims. As well as being cultivators they weave bags and mats.
The Saora also live in Bihar, Maharashtra and Orissa. In Orissa, there are some who have become Christians.
Prayer Points
Pray that leaders of the village councils will become Christians and lead others of the Saora to Jesus Christ.
