Introduction / History
The Tiyar are a Scheduled Caste in India. They are Hindus by religion.

In West Bengal they speak, read and write in Bengali. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as a cereal. Agriculture is their main work. Some do weaving and others are self-employed. The women take part in financial, religious and social matters. Education is for both boys and girls.

The Tiyar in Orissa are immigrants from West Bengal. They speak Oriya. Cross-cousin marriages are well liked by them. They are not landowners. Fishing is their main work. Agricultural and general laboring have become more common. Marriages can be regulated by lineages. They use traditional and modern medicines.

Prayer Points
* Pray that God will give the Tiyar dreams and visions leading them to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that gospel materials including recordings will lead them to salvation.
