Introduction / History
The Kapu are a forward caste who live mainly in Andhra Pradesh. Many live on the coasts in Andhra Pradesh. Kapu refers to landowners and the village leaders are called Reddy.
The Reddy have much financial and social power in Andhra Pradesh. They speak Telugu. They do farming as an occupation. Many of them live in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka too.
The Kapu/Reddy are mainly Hindus. Some are Buddhists. Some live in the new Indian state of Telangana on the coasts. They live in Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa and Chhattisgarh too. In the Telugu language Kapu means cultivator or agriculturist.
